Position Details

The Survivor Services Sexual Abuse Counselor will provide comprehensive sexual abuse services to all survivors of sexual abuse in the identified service area. The Sexual Abuse Counselor will provide client-centered, trauma-informed, age-appropriate, culturally-sensitive, in-person counseling and therapy to support clients in the recovery process. The Sexual Abuse Counselor will utilize a variety of intervention techniques in order to assist the client in meeting his or her goals of counseling. In addition, this position will provide outreach, awareness, and training to the communities in the areas served to ensure survivors have access to services. This position will provide in-person and over-the-phone crisis intervention and advocacy as needed

Position Hours: varies-8:30am-5 pm with some occasional evenings and on-call shifts

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ensure free, voluntary, non-discriminatory, accessible services for all clients.
Provides client-centered, trauma-informed counseling services to clients in program
Provide targeted professional outreach, training and technical assistance to increase identification and referral for services as well as a trauma informed response when survivors disclose sexual abuse.
Act as a liaison to schools when appropriate for children and youth who are survivors.
Provide support and guidance to parents/significant others of sexual abuse survivors on a one on one basis to learn ways to best support the survivor.
Provide advocacy and support services during court proceedings, medical exams, and/or investigations (child welfare and law enforcement).
Provide on call 24 hour direct service on a pre-scheduled rotating basis with other staff members outside of normal office hours.
Keep an open flexible schedule to meet the needs of the community, survivors, and the program.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with individuals and community members in the service area.
Complete annual continuing education requirements to ensure certification as a Sexual Abuse Counselor with Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
Possess the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied culture, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identify.

Attends all community meetings determined to be essential.

Provides timesheet documentation for all funding sources related to the position.
Inputs daily services into the data entry system by the noted deadline each week.
Is able to assess effectiveness of services provided and make adjustments to service delivery if needed.
Understanding of the issues related to the decision making process; ability to analyze situations fully and accurately, and reach productive decisions.
Identifies, obtains, and organizes relevant data and ideas.
Utilizes feedback from various sources in order to improve the quality of services offered. Sources such as survey, volunteer, community, and team members.
Other duties as assigned.


Bachelors Degree in crisis counseling, counseling, therapy, social work or psychology (Human Services Field) or a license in counseling, psychology or social work; Masters Degree Preferred

Experience: 3 years of experience working in the human services field with survivor services experience preferred.

Must have current proof of car insurance, able to pass a driving background check, and have reliable transportation.
