**Traffic/Streetlight Technician I**ID **7683**Location **Washington Metro Area- MD/VA/DC**Apply Now (https://phg.tbe.taleo.net/phg04/ats/careers/v2/applyRequisition?org=MCDEAN=62=7683)**Job Description:**The Traffic/Streetlight Technician I is responsible for all construction-related duties related to the maintenance and repair of traffic signals.+ Assist in the installation of traffic and streetlight cable+ Housekeeping of work area and work vehicles+ Re-stocking of work vehicles or storage areas+ Perform pre and post vehicle and equipment inspections+ Basic knowledge of the theory of electricity and electronics+ Excellent safety and driving records and reliable transportation+ This position may require ongoing or intermittent use of a company vehicle. Selected candidates must possess an acceptable driving record in accordance to M. C. Dean policy+ Ability to drive vehicles up to 26,000 pounds+ Ability to use a computer to pull work orders from on line tool and print+ Work Flexible Hours and varying shifts, including rotating on call schedule**Job Duties and Responsibilities:**The incumbent is responsible for:+ Troubleshooting complex electrical equipment to the Lowest Replacement Item (LRI).+ Performing preventative maintenance on equipment.+ Working on 170 controllers and 330 series traffic controller cabinets.+ Training and supervising mechanics, apprentices, groundmen, and helpers.+ Reading and understanding traffic drawings and configuration packs pertaining to the traffic signal system in Washington, D.C.+ Creating as-built sketches of the traffic signal system.+ Working on 120V energized traffic circuits.+ Determining the appropriate types and sizes of conduits and cables required for a task.+ Understanding contract specifications.+ Operating a jack hammer and compressor properly.+ Driving large vehicles including bucket trucks and pickup trucks and towing equipment such as arrow boards,small trailers and compressors.**Job Working Conditions and Environment:**This position is physically demanding and often requires working outdoors while exposed to all types of weather conditions and while working in all types of environments. For example, the incumbent may be required to work, depending on the job location and the time of year, in the heat, cold, rain and snow. This position also requires working at extreme heights, in areas that are under construction, or in restricted areas such as a switchgear room, manhole, utility tunnel, crawl space or attic. The incumbent must be able to access work areas that are accessible only by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladders or stairs that are under construction. Additionally, this position requires flexible work hours. In order to get a project completed on time, laborers are often required to work overtime, weekends and night shifts. The incumbent must work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.**Formal Education:**+ The incumbent has a high school degree or GED.+ Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in the electrical industry.**Certifications:**The incumbent must obtain the following certifications within one (1) month of hire and maintain the certifications while employed by M.C. Dean, Inc.:+ Bucket Truck Operator Certification+ CPR and First Aid Certification+ Confined Space Training Certification+ IMSA Work Zone Safety Certification+ IMSA I Level I Certification+ Flagger Certification+ Miss Utility Training Certification**Personal Skills:**This position requires:+ Tracking accurate hours worked on each job per day.+ Ensuring the foreman properly recorded the hours and timely submitting payroll timesheets on a weekly basis.+ Timely returning completed security clearance forms.+ Timely planning for equipment and materials needed for a job.+ Understanding and following Company procedures for ordering, storing, receiving, and returning materials and tools.+ Timely returning safety records to the safety officer.**Abilities:**+ Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.+ Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.+ Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.+ Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.+ Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.+ May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.+ Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
