Job Description

The Supplier Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for overseeing the food safety and quality assurance program for all supplied products and ingredients intended for human or animal consumption as well as food-contact packaging.

The job requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Microbiology, Food Science/Technology, or equivalent required. Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in food manufacturing, food handling, food safety risk management, or equivalent required
  • Must obtain all professional licensure required by local law or regulation
  • Familiarity with retail, c-store, or grocery operations preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of the FDA Food Code, FSMA, USDA requirements, HACCP systems and processes, and GFSI and other third-party certification schemes
  • Knowledge and expertise in handling recalls, withdrawals, and other urgent situations
  • Proficient skill level in MS Office, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Continually develop and enhance a comprehensive, proactive, and effective supplier management program
  • Work with members of the food service operations and food safety teams to ensure an integrated approach to food safety management
  • Develop, implement, and monitor all aspects of the food safety and quality assurance supplier management program to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, product specifications, and Buc-ee's standards
  • Serve as a key resource for identification and resolution of food safety and quality issues for marketing, private label, sourcing, and procurement teams, as well as federal, state, and local regulatory agencies
  • Lead investigations and spearhead resolution of product food safety and quality issues stemming from customer complaints or through internal reporting
  • Evaluate new product suppliers and monitor existing merchandise to ensure compliance with all applicable Company and regulatory food safety and quality assurance specifications and requirements
  • Ensure quality assurance monitoring activities and third-party certification programs are effectively executed and properly documented by suppliers
  • Collect and maintain product quality incident data sufficient to identify trends and deficiencies
  • Conduct audits of supplier distribution centers and manufacturing facilities as needed to ensure compliance with Company standards
  • Develop and oversee recall/withdrawal process and drive recall/withdrawal compliance within the Company and among suppliers
