Job Description

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for acquisitions and procurement of perishable products and services for the company. The successful candidate will be the assigned point of contact for business leaders, while assuming accountability for delivery of service. This individual is responsible for purchasing in accordance with company strategies, brand growth, and financial strategic plans.

  • Ensure continuous flow of all ingredient and packaging to ensure we are under budget.
  • Interface with managers on new items as well as the communication of deleted/or distressed products.
  • Prepare cost factors for Accounts Receivable.
  • Work closely with the Chef to insure all new projects are designed with approved vendors.
  • Work with QA and vendors to insure receipt of spec products.
  • Purchase and schedule materials to meet all production requirements as needed
  • Works directly with product vendors and suppliers to resolve any related issues in a timely manner, reducing the impact of on operations and overall gross profit
  • Strong negotiating and procuring practices to secure best rates for raw ingredients including third party products for pass-through sales
  • Conduct research and analysis to negotiate best cost for existing and new purchase items
  • Review lead times, minimum order requirements, shelf-life, and usage to determine order frequency to maintain lean inventory systems
  • Schedule pickups/will-call orders with certain vendors and communicate to shipping/receiving department.
  • Negotiate credit terms with existing/new vendors
  • Manage and coordinate all details related to the day to day business operations including but not limited to the following: volume-forecasting-deductions, product price changes, and operational matters
  • Works effectively in cross-functional team with other departments to communicate industry trends
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of management, external vendors both verbally and in writing
  • Ensure partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements

  • Must have relevant raw food ingredients (perishable products) procurement and purchasing experience within a medium to large food distributor, retailer or wholesale operations (5-7 years)
  • Strategic, sourcing, supply chain, purchasing, contract negotiation

  • Experience analyzing customer based and competitive market analysis
  • Ability to speak effectively with various stakeholders
  • Result driven with strong ability to negotiate product contracts
  • Flexible to change priorities on assigned tasks and have ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Strong business acumen and apply knowledge of multidisciplinary principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and company initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability in sales and operational forecasting and annual business planning
  • Possess a minimum of BA/BS Degree in related field or commensurate level of directly related experience
